Bores…

“A healthy male adult bore consumes each year one and a half times his own weight in other people’s patience.”

John Updike, Assorted Prose (1965)

I saw this, and just a few minutes later, ran into the article “Xmas Dinner For One DVD, New Friends Are Just One Click Away” over at UberReview.com (opens in new window). Which leads me to ponder: How boring do you really have to be until buying this kind of DVD seems like an attractive alternative to, say, watching TV or a film over a solo dinner?

Wonders never cease.

I Wasn’t Fond of Red Until…

I just found out about Joinred.com, Bono’s latest initiative to do something for charity. The idea is simple: appeal to our consumerist greed in order to get us to fork out money (indirectly), for charity. Various manufacturers of well-known branded items (see site) have brought out special red versions of their products, and are donating part of the money you spend acquiring said bling to charity.

Not a bad idea, I reckon. In fact, I think I’ll get myself one of these for Christmas:
